The forbidden ingredients of the Curly Girl method

If you know the Curly Girl method, you know that there are many ingredients that the products you use may not contain.
When a product is approved for the Curly Girl Method, it is called a Curly Girl Approved Product.

Here at the webshop, you only find products that are approved!

Below, we have listed all the ingredients that are NOT approved on the method, or that can otherwise present challenges, such as soap and Itchy m's.

Alcohols:

Some alcohols are drying out for the hair and therefore you must avoid them. In the list below you can see which alcohol alcohols are involved.

Wax and Oils:

When co-washing or using low-poo it can be difficult to wash wax and oils out of the hair again, as it often requires a sharp sulphate.

OBS:

  • Castor Oil (Not directly banned, but some may have trouble washing it out)

Soap:

Let's make it clear, soap is not forbidden! But soap has the same exfoliating properties as sulfate and therefore, for some, it can pose challenges. So, in these cases, one must be aware of the following ingrediens:

  • Potassium hydroxide
  • Saponification
  • Saponified
  • Saponifying
  • Soap
  • Sodium carboxylate
  • Sodium palm

Itchy m´s:

Itchy m´s covers Methylchloroisothiazolinone / Methylisothiazolinone which are preservatives. These are classified as highly allergenic and can therefore cause rash and or itching.

They are not prohibited according to the curly girl method.
